Tour Talk and Eat. Join the Celebration to honor Enterprise Historic Buildings

The City of Enterprise and the Greater Enterprise Main Streets Group (GEMS) will award commemorative bronze plaques to the owners of the nationally recognized historic buildings in downtown Enterprise. The celebration starts at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 30 at the Odd Fellows Hall. Come, enjoy refreshments; learn about the newly listed historic buildings and their owners’ plans for restoration. Learn about community improvement ideas from the Greater Enterprise Main Streets Group.

Downtown Enterprise now has six buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The United States Department of the Interior recently placed the Odd Fellows Hall, the EM&M building and the OK Theatre on the National Register of Historic Places. The Gotter hotel, the Wallowa County Courthouse and the Burnaugh building were previously, listed on the National Register.

The celebration starts at the Odd Fellows Hall located at 105 NE 1st St. Refreshments will be served and plaques presented to honor the Odd Fellows hall, the Wallowa County Courthouse, the Burnaugh Building and the Gotter Hotel. The Odd Fellows will give a short presentation about their restoration plans for the Hall. 

The celebration continues at the EM&M building where there will be more talking, eating and celebration. Mary Swanson, Chair of GEMS will talk about upcoming projects. The finale will be at the Ok Theatre where there will be more refreshments and the short 1930’s shop at home video will be shown. Come and join in the festivities Wednesday, May 30, at 5:30 pm as we celebrate Enterprise’s history and honor the building owners for their efforts to improve our city.

Founded in 1889, Enterprise Oregon is located in the northeast corner of Oregon. Enterprise is the County Seat and the largest town in Wallowa County with 1,940 residents.

Surrounded by wide-open prairies with mixed conifer forests to the north and the Eagle Cap Wilderness to the south Enterprise is nestled in the historic and scenic Wallowa Valley, ancient home of the Nez Perce.

Enterprise’s far-sighted city councilors have, over the years, invested in the well-being of the community resulting in a new hospital and a new sewer system. Enterprise also has a High School with 100% graduation rate and a teacher student ratio of 1:13, one of the lowest in the state.

Statistics

The City of Enterprise is the County Seat of Wallowa County, Oregon. According to the 2010 census, the city has a total population of 1,940. The town sits at the base of the Wallowa Mountains at an elevation of 3756' and recieves about 12" of annual precipitation.
Enterprise is located at 45°25'27" N, 117°16'37" W. According to the Wallowa County GIS department, the city occupies a 1.47 square miles or 938.16 acres.
